Archivista Tokyo

Date: November 2018 Location: Tokyo, Japan Area: 1200m2 Function: Spatial installation Status: Concept
Archivista Tokyo is a spatial installation proposal that captures and reflects the diverse urban activities across Tokyo. The project takes the form of a large, fountain-like structure composed of upcycled paper collected from different parts of the city, each fragment carrying traces of everyday life. By assembling these materials, the installation presents a collective portrait of the city, where individual actions accumulate into a shared urban expression. The structure is conceived to be embedded within Shibuya’s underground station, positioning it within one of Tokyo’s most active transit environments. In this context, the installation engages directly with the continuous flow of passengers, establishing an ongoing interaction between the work and the city. The proposal was developed for the Tokyo Tokyo Festival, an initiative that coordinated cultural programmes across the city in parallel with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
