HARMONY IN DIVERSITY

FOS

As many of post-industrial cities in Europe, the city of Kortrijk has been troubled with finding the way to utilizing inactive industrial heritages. Those great numbers of legacies are remained unused for decades after the flourish of textile production happened in 20th century. The major problem the legacies facing are security concern and financial issue. FOSS is designed as a spatial tool that inhabits inside the legacies to temporary activate them for public while providing secured internal space. The tool is created by utilizing scaffolding tarp which protects inside from collapsing ceiling materials.

Besides, this low-cost tool is developed easy to install and relocate itself which feature enables the tool to be moved according to the demands of each building. The ultimate goal of this project is to create immersive spatial experiences in every abandoned heritage in the region, thus the citizens start discovering the potential in the forgotten legacies. The project is done collaborating with Future of Kortrijk: Interaction Designer, Jasna Dimitrovska & Spatial Designer Jaenam Lim. Project is organized by Designregio Kortrijk, a member of UNESCO Design City program.
